Description

This course provides experienced portlet application developers with engaging lectures and hands-on labs to immerse themselves in the new features available in WebSphere Portal V7.0. The students will learn how to migrate a WebSphere Portal V6.1 theme to the new version 7.0 theme architecture using Client Side Aggregation (CSA2), develop an iWidget, and develop a custom user interface for tagging and rating. The second half of this course will equip students to efficiently develop, test and use Dojo and AJAX for WebSphere Portal V7. Students will also learn the usage of desktop tools to edit portal pages including WebDAV, updated security capabilities and the Unified Task List portlet. This course makes extensive use of Rational Application Developer V8.0 to develop and test JSR 286 compliant portlets.

Objectives

Participants

This course is for experienced application developers who are familiar with Java, Web 2.0 and Web development who have developed portlets and applications for WebSphere Portal 6.0 and later.

Prerequisite(s)

You should have:
•    Knowledge of portlet development equivalent to course IBM WebSphere Portal 6.1 Application Development 1and 2 (WP631)
•    Possess a solid understanding of J2EE application development, including the ability to read and understand servlets, and Java Server Pages (JSPs)
•    Have a solid understanding of the World Wide Web functionality and be familiar with Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX) and Dojo.
•    Have a basic understanding of Rational Application Developer or Eclipse development environment
•    Have strong Windows user skills
