Developing iSeries Applications Using SQL
Description
Cross-training for experienced RPG programmers learn to use embedded SQL as an alternative to traditional file processing.
Objectives
Before attending this course, students should be able to:
• Write SQL DDL statements for maintaining the iSeries DB2 UDB database
• Write SQL DML statements for the retrieval and manipulation of information stored in the iSeries DB2 UDB database.
These skils can developed by attending the following courses:
OL49I - iSeries Technical Introduction
OL37 - Accessing the iSeries Database Using SQL
Participants
Experienced RPG programmers with a basic understanding of the SQL language.
Prerequisite(s)
After attending this course, students should be able to:
• Code embedded SQL statements (static and dynamic) in RPG programs to perform database I/O operations
• Explain the use of SQL Stored Procedures
Options
The course includes the follwoing Topics:
• Review of the SQL language
• Coding Static SQL statements in RPG IV programs
• Coding Dynamic SQL statements in RPG IV programs
• SQL Stored Procedures
Course type
Each student will have a dedicated workstation to complete the numerous practical exercises. Sample solutions will also be provided.
