DB2 9 for z/OS Implementation Workshop

Description

This course is for installers of DB2 UDB for z/OS V8 and/or migration to DB2 9 for z/OS using the Install CLIST. The participants are involved in lectures that explain DB2 9 components and pointers, and the processes used to install or migrate from DB2 UDB V8. To reinforce the lectures, a series of labs are provided to give each participant hands-on experience installing DB2 UDB V8 and migrating to DB2 9 for z/OS.
The hands-on labs include exercises to:
•    Install DB2 UDB for z/OS V8 subsystem
•    Verification with the sample applications
•    Perform parameter update
•    Migrate to DB2 9 conversion mode
•    Fall back to DB2 UDB for z/OS V8
•    Remigration to DB2 9 conversion mode
•    Enable new function mode
•    Verification with the sample applications
•    Precompile option NEWFUN(NO)

•    Provide appropriate parameters for the Install CLIST
•    Execute the Install CLIST

•    Define VSAM catalog and alias
•    Define system data sets and databases
•    Initialize system data sets and databases
•    Define DB2 9 for z/OS initialization parameters
•    Define user authorization exits
•    Record DB2 9 for z/OS data to SMF
•    Establish subsystem security
•    Verify the installation
•    Update subsystem parameters
•    Create a new ZPARM
•    Migrate DB2 V8 to DB2 9 Compatibility Mode
•    Enable DB2 9 New Function Mode
•    Verify migration

Participants

Anyone responsible for maintaining, installing or migrating DB2 UDB for z/OS V8 to DB9 for z/OS, or installing DB2 9 for z/OS.

Prerequisite(s)

The following prerequisites are suggested:
•    The basic concepts and facilities of DB2,
•    The basic concepts of Structured Query Language (SQL),
•    MVS Time Sharing Option (TSO) and the MVS interactive System Productivity Facility (ISPF),
•    Course CV83 Database Administration or equivalent Work experience in a z/OS environment,
•    CV85 System Administration,
•    Defining and allocating MVS data sets using MVS job control language (JCL) or equivalent experience.

Installing the DB2 Subsystem
•    Install a DB2 subsystem using the output from the DSNTINST CLIST: Define DB2 to MVS, Define system data sets and databases, Initialize system data sets and databases, Define DB2 initialization parameter, and Describe the function of the Administrative Scheduler
•    Start the DB2 subsystem
•    Backup the DB2 directory and catalog
Verification with the Sample Applications
•    Verify installation: Delete sample objects, Create and load sample tables, Test the batch environment, and Test SPUFI, Dynamic SQL, and TSO
Performing Parameter Update
•    Update subsystem parameters
•    Emphasize to co-workers that updating through panels makes sense
Migrating to Compatibility Mode
•    Plan for DB2 9
•    Discuss the migration process and implication
•    Describe the changes to the catalog
•    Migrate to DB2 9 for z/OS Compatibility Mode
Enabling New Function Mode and New Function Mode
•    Enable New Function Mode for DB2 9
•    Begin New Function Mode for DB2 9
Verifying with the sample applications
